This is a lovely, old-fashioned song, written by Archie Fisher using a haunting old melody from a Basque lullaby. It’s waltz time (3/4), like so many old songs, and has only 3 chords, but the timing of the melody is a bit tricky at the start of each second verse.
Eva Cassidy did a beautiful version, with slghtly different words, in key of G – good if you have a high voice, but I’ve done it in Key of D as well as I find it easier to sing.
The Archie Fisher recording from 1976 is in Key of F (so you could play D chords with capo on 3rd fret if you wanted to match it).
